Annual Canned Food Drive

Thanksgiving is right around the corner which means that the annual Canned Food Drive will happen soon (along with some football and a good turkey meal). This is a HUGE event for our school (and community) and we have actually won this for 15 years in a row (shout out to AB Combs!). More importantly, we have helped thousands in our community.

November 23rd-December 4th

Each dollar collected equals 5 cans of food! New this year: We will also use some of the canned food to benefit our own Combs Backpack Buddies Program!

More information from the food bank: This important event comes at a critical time the holiday season when the need for food increases. Sadly, the fight against hunger continues as there are 450,000 people at risk of hunger in our local community, and nearly 30% are children. The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina strives to provide resources for our neighbors in need in our 34 county service area. Last year, the “Students Against Hunger” Food Drive was a record-breaking success, collecting 138,095 pounds and $48,628.00. When combined, that’s nearly 322,960 meals! We are hoping to beat the record this year. We can do it with your help! Students Against Hunger is held in conjunction with the WTVD ABC 11 “Heart of Carolina ” Food Drive . Participating schools donating the highest per capita food pounds will be deemed the "Leaders in the Fight Against Hunger.” For more information CLICK HERE .

Combs Students, Faculty, Families and Friends

The Wake County PTA Council has announced its second Annual Wake County PTA Healthy Lifestyles 5K Run/Walk, on Sunday, November 22 at 3:30 pm on NC States Centennial Campus.

Anyone can participate in the 5K on November 23rd, but to be eligible for prizes and for our school to get credit for participating, runners or walkers are encouraged to register. Last year we had the highest participation and won a $500 grant toward Health and Wellness at our school! Additionally, there were several teachers that won prizes in their age category! We are aiming for that again this year!!

The last day of early bird registration is this Sunday, November 8th for a fee of $20. You can register after that, however you aren't guaranteed a t-shirt and the fee increases to $25.

The 5K is for Wake County individuals and families, regardless of skill or experience level. There are race prizes in age categories: 10 and under, 11-13,14-19, 20-29, 30- 39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 +. When registering for this race, please indicate that you are affiliated with Combs Elementary School, as the elementary school with the highest number of registered participants will receive money to be used towards Healthy Lifestyles programming at their school. Let's show our Combs spirit by wearing our Combs spirit wear on the day of the event. You can register online, or print a mail-in registration form. Registered race participants and volunteers receive a goody bag on the day of the race and if they register by early bird registration, November 8, participants also are guaranteed to receive a race t-shirt on race day.

The Health and Safety Committee at Combs will be rewarding the class in each grade level with a healthy dessert party!

Free Seasonal Flu Shots Available

Wake County is partnering with public, private and charter schools across the County to provide free seasonal flu shots to all school-age children in Kindergarten through grade 12. To find out more about this program, CLICK HERE to read about it at the Wake County Public Schools website

Wonderful Wednesday Walking Club

The Health and Wellness Committee is starting a Wonderful Wednesday Walking Club after school. This walking club is to provide an opportunity for fitness, fun and wellness among students and their families. CLICK HERE for more information.
